Five minutes with Ben Hayes

We’re happy to say that Ben Hayes joined the Leap Health team three and a half years ago. A born and raised in Tasmania, Ben completed his Masters of Physiotherapy on the Gold Coast and also holds a Bachelor of Human Movement (Exercise and Sports Science) from UTAS. Ben is an avid sportsman, sports fan and now sports team physio – working with Cricket Tasmania, Prince of Wales Wellington Hockey Club as well as being the team physiotherapist for the Tasmanian Tigers Senior Men’s Hockey Team in the Australian Hockey League.

Here we spend five minutes with Ben so you can get to know him a little better.

1. What’s the thing you love most about being a physio?

I’m sure like all physios at Leap Health, we all love helping people. Whether that be helping someone recover from an acute injury in time for the grand final, or helping a chronically ill patient achieve function higher than they have had for years.

I’ve also been lucky enough to travel with sporting teams to every state and territory in Australia, and every trip is as unique and exciting as the last.

2. What’s your best tip for a weekend warrior?

Prevention is better than Cure! Do the right things often and early to save heartache late in the season – Mobility and Flexibility!

3. What is your favourite meal, breakfast, lunch or dinner?

I don’t eat eggs and mushrooms – so there goes all the good breakfast options, lunch is whatever can be fitted in throughout the day, so it has to be Dinner – by a long way!

4. My motto is…

Win the Day

5. You wouldn’t know it but…

I have a thriving veggie patch at home, that changes and evolves each season.

6. I’m inspired by…

Well at present it is every Olympian competing. Otherwise, an individual who inspires me is JJ Watt – do yourself a favour and google him – as humble as he is a superstar.

Outside of the sporting cauldron, the human minds quest for knowledge is astonishing – especially in those that have forgotten more than I have ever known.

7. I can’t live without…

Coffee, Wife, ESPN. No particular order

8. Tea or coffee?

See Above

9. If you could be a superhero for one day, what would you be?

As a kid my favourite superhero was Captain Planet – don’t ask me why… must’ve been the catchy theme song.
